Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should repair a gas boiler
It's a legal requirement for anyone working on gas appliances in a home to be Gas Safe registered and competent for that work. Don't take the boiler casing off yourself.
The Health and Safety Executive strongly advises having gas appliances serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Boiler repair: common questions
Can I reset my boiler myself?
Most boilers have a reset button, and the manual explains when it's safe to use it. If the boiler locks out again, stop resetting it and get an engineer to look at it.
Is it worth repairing an old boiler?
It depends on the fault, the boiler's age and whether parts are still available. An engineer can tell you after inspecting it. If replacement makes more sense, see boiler installation.
